Waters & Stanton branch at Lowe Electronics closed on Saturday, 15th March, 2008.

Due to proposed redevelopment of the Bentley Bridge, Matlock site Waters & Stanton’s shop at Lowe Electronics closed down on Saturday, 15th March 2008. The Directors of W & S thanked the many customers who had used the Shop over several years and also the staff who had built up a loyal clientele. In particular tribute was paid to Dave Corfield and Roger Baines for their work in promoting the company’s products so successfully. The phone sales team at Hockley head office are standing by to provide every assistance to all Lowe customers wishing to make future purchases with freephone 08000737388 available for their use. Alternatively several independent radio retail outlets in the area stock most Waters & Stanton products and of course the Rally Team will be at Elvaston Rally and Donington Radio Show.

Nicola Nicholls - 20 Years at Waters & Stanton.

Most of our loyal customers will have spoken with Mrs Nicholls many times when contacting us for help, advice or to place an order. Nicola has now been with us for more than 20 years!

In fact she is the 6th staff member to get her long service award for 20 years at W&S! She joins Mark Francis, Steve Hoy, Joan Lammin as well as Jeff Stanton and Peter Waters on our list of fame.

To celebrate this considerable achievement we sprang a surprise on her last week. After Jeff Stanton had made a short presentation we gave her some flowers and a card signed by all staff. We then sent her to London to see a Show (Dirty Dancing) with her husband, Bob. We put them up at a nice hotel for the night, they had dinner, breakfast next morning followed by a day’s shopping in London.

She reported back that they "had the time of their lives."

Waters & Stanton Christmas Party.

On Wednesday 19th December, 22 of our staff enjoyed a great evening at the Chichester Restaurant in nearby Rawreth, Essex for our annual Office Party.

Nicola & Bill from Sales lead the dancing after a good dinner.

We were celebrating a great year of trading with our staff doing everything possible to keep our thousands of customers happy.

Jeff Stanton said that "all our staff work hard to answer customers many questions throughout the year, take their orders and then ship out fast to all corners of the globe. It's good to see them letting their hair down and having a good time."

Greensward Industry Day 001.

Once again we were invited to take part in our local Technology College's Annual Industry Day on Friday, 8th June.

Every student in year 11 has the opportunity during this day to spend some time taking part in small groups in practical hands-on commercial activities.

The Waters & Stanton contribution was assisted by Carlos Eavis who kindly brought the GB4FUN RSGB teaching vehicle.

Greensward Industry Day 002.

In the classroom three of our staff spent time with small groups assisting the students to put together simple battery testing modules donated by us.

They were able to experience soldering assembly techniques with the object of producing something useful which they could take home after they checked that it had been assembled correctly and worked.

The local Fire Brigade, Police and other businesses also took part.

After the successful event the College Principal wrote personal letters of thanks to ZIPY, G4ZPE, Mark, 2EODJQ and Bernard Harris for taking part. She said that the day gives students a practical taste of local workplaces all under one roof.

Jeff Stanton paid tribute to his staff for giving up their time and patiently explaining simple radio and electronics to the students.

Open Day 2007

Thank you to all those who attended our 2007 Open Day. Despite the weather, the Open Day was a success and proved to be one of the best ever. We had the RSGB with their Fun Bus at the front of the building. Kenwood, Icom and Yaesu representatives were on hand inside the shop to demonstrate their equipment when called on (with a bit of give and take regarding operating space). As well as RPF Comms with their new Bluetooth device plus the Essex Repeater Group. The usual hospitality of free food and drink plus many price reductions and discount made it a great day out.

British National Time Signal

The British National Time Signal transmitted from Rugby since 1927 is moving to Anthorn in Cumbria. This is due to the contract expiring with BT and being taken up by VT Communications. From the 31st March the time signal will be transmitted from Anthorn. There should be no noticable difference to the time signal even for those clocks and radios that get their updated time signals from Rugby at present. The advancing or retarding of the hour for BST and GMT will carry on as before, as well as a Leap Second that has to be inserted every now and again to take account of the Earth's rotation slowing up. Further details about the National Physical Laboratory (NPL) can be obtained from the web www.npl.co.uk
