The Challenger MkIV now has the superb 3CX1500A7 ceramic triode valve. The 8877 (as the 3CX1500 is more commonly known) with its x40 gain has long been loved by Radio Amateurs the world over. This valve gives a higher average power than the GS35 with greater efficiency. The Challenger IV is ideal for use with the latest 100W radios such as the IC-756PROIII, TS-2000 and FT1000MP Field etc.
The Challenger MkIII is built to withstand long periods of operation at full power for the serious DX-er or contest person. The amplifier uses a Russian GS35 ceramic triode to produce 1500W on all bands, 10 to 160m including the WARC bands.
The Explorer uses two 3-500ZG valevs in grounded grid configuration, and along with a 1.2KVA toroidal transformer gives continuous operation for long periods, even on RTTY. Pretuned input circuits are incorporated on each band so that your transmission sees a 50 Ohm input load on each band.
This design from Linear Amp UK with high specification and rugged construction has features normally associated with expensive linears. However, this model is offered at a very realistic price and it will loaf along at the UK power limitation. The low cost power tubes mean that tube replacement will not break the bank.
